OC Systems Expands Support for SunTM ONE;
RootCauseTM Supports Sun ONE Application Server 7
RootCause for J2EETM Platform extends logging
and debugging of deployed Java applications to Sun's newest application server
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif.,SunNetworkSM 2002
Conference and PavilionSeptember 18, 2002OC Systems, Inc. today
announced that RootCause for the Java™ 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE™),
its Java technology application problem management tool, supports the Sun™
Open Net Environment (Sun ONE) Application Server 7 product line. Companies
using Sun ONE to deliver Web-based applications and Web services will be able
to resolve software defects and performance problems in deployed applications
faster, improving reliability and availability. Additionally, RootCause is
SunToneSM certified demonstrating best practices for the delivery
of web-based services.
RootCause acts like a flight recorder for J2EE
technology-based applications, collecting information about the execution as
it runs. When a problem occurs, developers can step through the execution and
perform root cause analysis without having to reproduce the problem. No
changes are made to any application files and no source code is required, so
RootCause can provide insight into third-party applications as well as code
written in-house.
"Our support for Sun ONE Application Server 7 reinforces
our commitment to Sun ONE," said Oliver Cole, president of OC Systems.
"The Sun ONE Application Server is a significant step forward, and the
investment Sun has made in their application server demonstrates the long-term
vibrancy of the J2EE technology market. Development organizations that choose
Sun ONE Application Server will now be able to use RootCause to debug
performance and correctness problems throughout the software development
lifecycle, even into the operational environment."
"As organizations demand increasingly high levels of
reliability, performance and availability, applications like RootCause will
help commercial software developers and senior support staff eliminate
software problems more efficiently," said Mark Bauhaus, vice president,
Java Web Services, Sun Microsystems, Inc.
RootCause traces J2EE technology-based applications at the
Java™ servlet and Enterprise JavaBean™ (EJB™) component level, providing
information on calls, timing of calls, and their use of other J2EE technology
areas such as JDBC™ and Java™ Message Service (JMS). RootCause performs
the tracing using bytecode insertion, which minimizes overhead and complements
current logging mechanisms. No changes are made to any application files,
including the Java Virtual Machine (JVM). Dynamically generated code can be
traced, as well as an app server clustered across multiple JVMs. Developers
can configure the level of detail they wish to obtain, and can customize
tracing by placing similar probes on their J2EE technology-based code.
In addition to Sun ONE Application Server 7, RootCause for
J2EE Platform Edition supports WebLogic, WebSphere, JBoss, Tomcat, and other
application servers that use standard Sun's Java Runtime Environments.
