When a shadowed file is selected for editing, the Edit Shadowed File dialog appears. When a file with read-only protection is selected for editing, the Edit Read Only File dialog appears. These are essentially identical, and offer the following choices:

Edit Read Only

Edit the file in place as-is. The file cannot be edited.

Extract from CM and Edit

Extract the file from CM and edit it. This places the file in the working project, but the file is still read-only.

Checkout from CM and Edit

Check out the file from CM and edit it. This places a writable version of the file in the working project.

Copy from Baseline and Edit

Copy the shadowed file into the working project and edit it. This new file is writable. This choice applies to the Edit Shadowed File dialog only.

Make Writable and Edit

Change the protections on the file to make it writable by the owner, then edit it. This choice applies to the Edit Read Only File dialog only.

This dialog also contains a list of the files that were selected for editing that are read-only or shadowed. Initially all are selected. To apply a specific action to just some of the files, Ctrl-Click with MB1 so only those files for the selected action are highlighted, the click Ok. These files will be removed from the list. Then select the files for the next action, and click Ok. When an action has been chosen for all files, the dialog will go away.
